BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County’s school board has set the 2014-15 school calendar, which starts Aug. 4 and more or less mirrors the current calendar.
The 7-0 vote Monday night was based on the results of an online survey split 55.5 percent for that calendar to 44.5 percent for one starting later in August.
In addition, the board learned that four companies — two from East Tennessee and two out-of-state firms — submitted requests for qualifications (RFQs) for a facilities study by the 3 p.m. Monday deadline. The board will hold a work session 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to review them.
And the board went on record saying it would support Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee, a joint STEM program of Kingsport and county schools from which Kingsport is withdrawing at the end of the school year.
The vote was 2,481 for the chosen calendar and 2,068 for a later-starting calendar in a Nov. 15-22 survey. The chosen calendar includes a fall break Oct. 6-10, Thanksgiving break Nov. 26-28 and Christmas break Dec. 22-Jan. 2. Spring break would be March 23-27, and the last day of school would be a half day May 21. The full calendar is or soon will be available at the system website, www.sullivank12.net/.
