KINGSPORT — A 17-year-old Church Hill resident was seriously injured in a Saturday afternoon accident in the Lynn Garden community of Kingsport.
According to the Kingsport Police Department news release, at 4:18 p.m. officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries. Because of the extent of the injuries, the Kingsport Police Department Traffic Unit was notified to investigate the collision.
The investigation revealed a 1989 GMC Jimmy had been traveling eastbound on Echo Avenue and for unknown reasons the driver of the Jimmy pulled into the path of a 2009 Pontiac G6 that was traveling southbound on Lynn Garden Drive. The Jimmy was struck in the driver's side door and the driver, the 17-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Holston Valley Hospital by Sullivan County EMS where he was listed in critical condition.
The department did not release the name of the juvenile, who lives on Carters Valley Road.
Elesha Byrd, the 24-year-old driver of the Pontiac G6 and a resident of Morning Star Road in Church Hill, also suffered injuries in the crash and was transported by Sullivan County EMS to Holston Valley Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition.
Based on the preliminary investigation, neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a factor in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing by the Traffic Division. The release officer for this incident was Patrolman Dustin Jackson, and the supervisor was Sgt. Joe Earles.
