KINGSPORT — Two people are hospitalized, one in critical condition, as the result of a two-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday afternoon in Lynn Garden.
According to a news release from the Kingsport Police Department, at 4:18 officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries at Lynn Garden Drive and Echo Avenue.
Because of the extent of the injuries, the KPD’s Traffic Unit was notified to investigate the incident.
Police say that a 1989 GMC Jimmy had been traveling eastbound on Echo Avenue when the driver, for unknown reasons, pulled into the path of a 2009 Pontiac G6 that was traveling southbound on Lynn Garden Drive.
The GMC was struck in the driver’s side door, and its driver, a 17-year-old male, sustained life- threatening injuries. He was transported to Holston Valley Hospital by Sullivan County EMS, where he is listed in critical condition.
Because the driver is a minor, the KPD is withholding his name at this time.
Elesha Byrd, 24, Morning Star Road, Church Hill, the driver of the Pontiac, was also injured and transported to Holston Valley, where she is listed in stable condition.
