KINGSPORT — An autopsy has been ordered for a body that was located Monday morning near a busy Kingsport intersection, while police say a preliminary investigation has found no evidence of foul play.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., a passing motorist made the discovery and alerted Kingsport central dispatch. Kingsport Police Department detectives responded to the location, a field adjacent to the intersection of Interstate 26 and John B. Dennis Highway, later identifying the deceased as a 28-year-old white male.
KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton says the man will not be publicly identified "out of respect for everyone involved." He added that the man was last seen alive on Sunday night and his family has been notified of the death.
All unattended deaths outside of a medical facility or not under the supervision of a medical professional are subject to a complete and thorough investigation by the KPD Criminal Investigations Division.
"However, based upon their preliminary findings, there is no indication of foul play," said Patton. "An autopsy has been ordered, and detectives will await those results before determining a cause of death to any degree of certainty."
