BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan East made the plays when needed and rode away from the Dickie Warren Dome on Friday with a 69-67 non-conference boys basketball win over Sullivan Central.
The victory completed the sweep after the Lady Patriots made their way to a 53-36 win earlier in the evening.
“A play here or there, possibly a rebound and we would have been there,” said Central coach Tony Vaughn. “We’ll just keep working at it. That is all you can do.”
The score was knotted at 55 with a little less than four minutes remaining in the game. That’s when East (3-1) took off on a 10-2 run for a 65-57 lead.
The Cougars (1-4) made a strong push late but just ran out of clock.
Anthony Vanhoy led the Patriots with 23 points. Hunter Owens added 13.
Central had three players in double figures, led by Luke Nussman’s 20 points. Lucas Parker had 16 and Nathan Wise added 13.
The girls’ game wasn’t nearly as close. East rode the shooting of Jamison Shaffer put up 17 points to set the offensive pace for the Lady Patriots (4-1).
