RIGA, Latvia (AP) — Latvian officials say that at least 37 people have died, including three firefighters, after an enormous section of a roof collapsed at a supermarket in the country's capital.
Rescue service spokeswoman Viktorija Sembele says she expects the death toll to rise as workers search to find trapped people under the rubble.
The reason for the collapse during shopping rush-hour Thursday was still not known but rescue and police officials say that possible theories include building's design flaws and poor construction work.
Officials say 35 other people were injured, including 10 firefighters.
