BLOUNTVILLE — Police are investigating a pair of burglaries in which entry was made by knocking holes in block walls at adjacent Blountville businesses.
Incident reports at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office say the burglaries occurred at Advance Auto Parts and Domino's Pizza, each in the 1300 block of Highway 394. Police were called to both businesses on Friday morning.
An Advanced Auto Parts employee reported coming in to find the back garage door was open, with a "hole in the concrete wall." Once inside, the suspects disabled the alarm system and forced open cash registers and a safe. More than $1,000 in cash was stolen, along with a carburetor valued at $360.
Across Highway 394 at Domino's Pizza, an employee entered through the front door to find the safe broken in to, cash missing and a hole "busted through the back wall."
SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says police believe the suspects used a large, heavy maul hammer to break through the walls.
