Volunteer sweeps Unaka in basketball doubleheader

CHURCH HILL — The Volunteer Lady Falcons remained undefeated by posting a 58-43 non-conference win over Unaka on Tuesday.

Savannah Felgemacher and Lindsey Overbey combined for 41 points Volunteer (7-0). Felgemacher led all scorers with 21 and Overbey poured in 20.

Kelsey Campbell led Unaka with 15 points and Hannah Tipton added 13.

The Volunteer boys followed with a 44-36 come-from-behind win. Ethan Crawford had 14 points and a monster 25 rebounds to lead the Falcons.

Kyle Lewis nailed a 3-point shot just a minute into the fourth quarter to give the Falcons a lead they never relinquished.

“Coming into the game we were looking at stopping Logan Carrier. He’s a tough player hitting 17 points in the first half, said Volunteer coach Chris Brown. “We tried to make adjustments in the second half, sending another guy his way and I think his legs may have gotten a little tired.”

Carrier closed with 25 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers.

Crawford kept the Falcons in the contest early by scoring 14 of the team’s 20 first-half points.
