Police are investigating an early Sunday morning assault at a Kingsport home that left the resident, 65, "covered in blood" and requiring hospitalization.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says at least two people are suspected of committing the crime on Beechwood Road, where medication was stolen. An incident report says that when deputies responded to the residence they found droplets of blood on the front porch, while the front door was standing open.
Inside, officers located the resident unresponsive, according to police records, and "covered in blood." He reportedly suffered a large laceration to the top of his head, later telling police that he couldn't recall what type of weapon had been used.
He was transported by EMS to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment and later released.
SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says the suspects were after the man's prescription medication. An investigation is continuing with no further information on the theft currently being released.
