Sullivan County commissioners approve asking state to consider new road across Bristol

BLOUNTVILLE  — It’s official. Sullivan County commissioners want the state to study building a new road across southwest Bristol.

The Sullivan County Commission voted in favor of the proposal Monday, on a voice vote, with no nays.

Commissioners said they want the state to assist in studying creation of a road to link the 11W/I-81 interchange area with Volunteer Parkway (11E).

Commissioner Bryan Boyd, primary sponsor of a resolution to ask the state to help study the issue, has said the ideal point for the new road’s intersection with 11E would be near Walmart and Bill Gatton Honda.

Boyd said the best route to link the two areas would go through Steele Creek Park  — but he said he’d been told that simply won’t be allowed to happen.
