Sullivan County commissioners set to discuss new highway for Bristol

BLOUNTVILLE  — Construction of a new highway across the south and east end of Bristol is among likely topics Monday at the Sullivan County Commission’s monthly meeting.

In committee discussions earlier this month, the consensus of commissioners has been that they want the state to assist in studying the creation of a road to link the 11-W/I-81 interchange area with the Volunteer Parkway (11-E) area near Walmart and Bill Gatton Honda.

Commissioner Bryan Boyd is the primary sponsor of a resolution seeking the full commission’s endorsement of a plan to ask the state to help study the issue.

Boyd said the best route to link the two areas would go through Steele Creek Park  — but he said he has been told that simply won’t be allowed to happen.
