CHURCH HILL — A 26-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning following a single vehicle accident in Hawkins County.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim as Heather N. Bowen of Church Hill. According to the preliminary accident report, drugs were a factor in the accident.
The wreck occurred at 11:10 a.m. Saturday on Carters Valley Road at the intersection of Morning Star Road. THP Trooper David Good wrote in his report that Bowen was traveling eastbound on Carters Valley when she overcorrected her 1996 GMC Jimmy after it ran off the right side of the roadway.
The SUV drove back onto Carters Valley before Bowen lost control of the vehicle and traveled back off the righthand side of the road.
Bowen’s vehicle then traveled down an embankment before it rolled over and ejected her, the report stated. Bowen was not wearing a seat belt when the wreck occurred.
The report said restraints would have made a difference. The accident is reportedly still under investigation.
