Thirty-six bands advanced to the semifinals of the Bands of America Grand Nationals competition Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Dobyns-Bennett didn't hear its name called until 33 others had already been announced.
But, in the end, that doesn't matter because they're moving on.
More than 90 bands from 19 states started preliminary competition at the national event.
On Saturday, Dobyns-Bennett will continue its quest for the Grand National Championships title in the semifinal round of competition. Band directors for the semifinalists drew performance times at the close of Friday's ceremonies. The first semifinal performance will begin at 6:45 a.m. The Indians will perform at 2:30 p.m. The announcement for finals should come around 5 p.m.
The semifinalists were announced in random order.
The D-B band left in charter buses about 1 p.m. Thursday for Indianapolis and performed bright and early Friday morning. From there, it was an excruciatingly long wait before the semifinalists were announced at approximately 10 p.m.
