Kingsport BOE's Lodal honored by TSBA, elected to board

Susan Lodal

KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools announced Friday that KCS Board of Education Vice-President Susan Lodal has been selected as the recipient of the Tennessee School Boards Association Ambassadors for Education Certified and Master Ambassador Awards and elected as TSBA President-elect for 2014.

Lodal was recognized and presented the awards during the 2013 TSBA Annual Convention Awards earlier this week in Nashville.

The TSBA Ambassadors for Education Certified and Master Ambassador Awards are in recognition of Lodal’s outstanding work in increasing public awareness and understanding the importance of public education during the recent school year.

The TSBA Ambassador for Education Program was developed to build greater public confidence in Tennessee’s public schools and better educate the public about public education. It is a community outreach program assisting local school board members in increasing public awareness and understanding of issues facing our communities, state and nation.

Ambassadors are appointed by the TSBA board of directors to one year terms. Board members who completed at least five presentations throughout the year were recognized with a silver pin and designated as Certified Ambassadors. Board members who completed at least 10 presentations were recognized with a gold pin and designated as Master Ambassadors.

At the convention's closing session, TSBA announced its roster of officers and board of directors for 2014 where Lodal was elected as president-elect.

Lodal has served on the KCS Board of Education since July 2003. While serving on the board, she has received numerous awards and honors including the National School Boards Association Distinguished Service Award (2012, 2010, 2007), 2011 Diamond Ambassador Award from the TSBA, the 2010 C. Hal Henard Distinguished Service Award and was named to the TSBA All Tennessee School Board.

She has served as the chairperson of the TSBA Tennessee Legislative Network, is a member of the TSBA board of directors and currently serves as the TSBA board vice president and former treasurer.

She is one of the Tennessee Legislative Network representatives for her board and is a member of the Legislative Affairs committee of the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce. She is a TSBA Ambassador and a Level 5 Board of Education Member, the highest designation bestowed by the TSBA.

She and her husband Peter reside in Kingsport.
