GATE CITY — Relentless from start to finish, Gate City swept visiting Grayson County 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 in the VHSL Region 2A West volleyball quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The victory sends the Lady Blue Devils (26-2) into the region semifinals on Thursday against James River at Appomattox High School. A win there earns Gate City a coveted berth in the state Final Four in Richmond on Friday, Nov. 22.

Sophomore Haley Reed led the Lady Blue Devils with 18 assists, five kills, 16 digs and four aces. Junior Kyra Jessee added 12 kills and 16 digs for Gate City.

“Tonight was one of my best matches,” said Reed, who is coach Amy Reed’s daughter. “I’m here to play and am not ready to go home yet.”

Caitlin McConnell had 10 kills for the Devils and Lindsey Harper added nine. Kerri Hite had 23 assists and Julie Dockery smashed eight kills.

“We watched film on and knew what to expect,” said Grayson County coach Brianna Rhodes. “Gate City wants to slam the ball in your face and move on with life. I respect that.”

Camryn McGrady led Grayson County with 12 kills and 10 digs, and Taylor Cannaday dished out 18 assists.
