EMORY — Emory & Henry freshman Tristen Pennington of Kingsport was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference volleyball rookie of the year on Tuesday.
Pennington, an alumna of Sullivan South, recorded a team-high 305 kills and led the Wasps with 3.11 kills per set. She was second on the squad in digs with 272, adding 29 service aces and 23 blocks.
An outside hitter, Pennington posted nine double-doubles on the season and had a season-high 25 kills and 20 digs against Covenant College in September. The 25 kills were the most by any player in the ODAC this season.
Pennington was one of two Wasps players receiving postseason honors from the league. E&H senior middle hitter Nicole Tesh of Boone, N.C., was selected to the All-ODAC first team and Pennington made the second team.
Tesh completed her career at E&H with a school-record 969 kills .
Washington and Lee’s M.A. Boles was named ODAC player of the year and the Generals’ Bryan Snyder was voted coach of the year.
