MACON, Ga. — East Tennessee State volleyball players Megan Devine and Khadijah Wiley were recognized for their efforts as the Buccaneer duo landed Atlantic Sun Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Devine was named player of the week for the third time this season after averaging five kills (45 total) and four digs (36 total) per set in wins over Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky over the weekend. The reigning A-Sun Player of the Year has now recorded 10 straight double-doubles.
Devine began the week with a 28-kill, 18-dig, 2-block effort in a five-set comeback win over Lipscomb. Half of Devine’s career-high 28 kills came in the marathon fourth set, where ETSU dodged match point six times en route to claiming a 35-33 win. In addition, the 28 kills are the second-most by an A-Sun player this season, while also marking the 25th time in Devine’s career where she totaled 20-plus kills in a match.
Devine followed that performance with 17 kills, 18 digs and two blocks in a four-set win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, moving ETSU’s overall win streak to eight and home win streak to 14.
For the second straight week, ETSU received the conference defensive player of the week award as Wiley posted 1.50 blocks (12 total), 2.62 kills (21 total) and 3.50 points (28 total) per set.
This marks the fifth career weekly honor for Devine, while it’s the first defensive honor for Wiley.
The Bucs wrap up regular season play this weekend when ETSU hosts North Florida Friday at 7 p.m. and Jacksonville Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brooks Gym.
