HCSO: Drunk driver allegedly tries to run over neighbor, makes death threats

MOORESBURG — A Hawkins County woman was arrested on a DUI charge Tuesday evening after allegedly trying to run over her neighbor.

Around 5:21 p.m. Tuesday the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Repass Road in Mooresburg on a report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch.

Deputy Mark Harrell stated in his report that upon his arrival he spoke with Stephanie Bierman who stated that her neighbor, Julia Ann Bailey, 65, 168 Repass Road Lot 8, Mooresburg, had tried to run her over.

“Stephanie stated that her neighbor, Julia Bailey, had been drinking and was sitting in her vehicle,” Harrell stated in his report. “Stephanie stated she walked behind the car and Julia hit the gas, trying to run her over. Julia then put the car in drive and tried to run her over again. Stephanie stated she had to jump out of the way to keep from being ran over.”

Bierman told Harrell that words were then exchanged between her and Bailey, at which time Bailey allegedly stated she was going to kill Bierman, either with a gun or the car.

Bailey then attempted to leave in the 2008 Ford Focus she was driving, and got stuck in a ditch, but she’d gotten out by the time Harrell arrived. Bierman told deputies she wanted a report of the incident on filed so she could file charges.

Deputies were then on the lookout for the red Ford Focus that Bailey was driving.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday Bailey was located driving on County Line road by Deputy Jeremy Nash.

Nash stated in his report that during the ensuing traffic stop he smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Bailey. Bailey allegedly admitted to drinking three beers.

Following a series of field sobriety tests she was arrested and charged with DUI ad driving left of center.

Bailey was arraigned Wednesday in Hawkins County Sessions Court, and a Feb. 5 trial date was set.
