CASTLEWOOD — The top two seeds advanced with ease on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Conference 48 volleyball tournament.
Top-seeded Eastside swept past No. 5 Castlewood 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 and second-seeded Rye Cove got past No. 3 Clintwood 25-16, 25-17, 26-24 to set up a rematch between the Lady Spartans and the Lady Eagles in Thursday night’s championship game.
Eastside coupled an aggressive service game with a dominant performance by Erin Stanley at the net to bowl over the homestanding Lady Blue Devils. Stanley had 16 kills to go along with 11 digs and six service aces.
Lindsay Dean was stellar as well for the Lady Spartans, collecting 10 digs, five kills and six aces. Katie Meade also had 11 digs and Brittany Stapleton handed out 24 assists.
Rye Cove jumped on Clintwood early and managed to close out the Lady Greenwave despite trailing 24-22 in Game 3. The Lady Eagles scored the final four points of the game to end the match.
Destiny Gibson had 13 kills and a pair of blocks for Rye Cove. Lucindy Lawson tallied 18 digs and three kills and Kristen Sanders pitched in with 26 assists and eight digs.
