DUFFIELD -- A single-vehicle accident Sunday night involving a semi-truck left quite a mess for cleanup crews after several tons of lumber were spilled across a Scott County roadway.
According to Scott County authorities, the truck was loaded with approximately 30 tons of 4x6 lumber when it overturned around 8:20 p.m. onto Natural Tunnel Parkway in Duffield.
Responders spent nearly three hours cleaning up the spilled wood.
The driver of the truck escaped the wreck uninjured. Authorities said the wood was being transported to Ohio, where it would be used to make pallets.
The rollover reportedly occurred when the driver had a breaking issue with the truck and attempted to cut onto the Parkway from U.S. Route 23 to avoid other vehicles.
The accident is being investigated by the Virginia State Police. The Scott County Sheriff's Office and Duffield Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
