BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County’s school board has unanimously approved a request for qualifications seeking planning consultants to do a comprehensive facilities plan for the 10,500-student school system.
The Board of Education voted 6-0, with member Betty Combs absent, to approve the RFQ due in the office of Purchasing Agent Kris Davis by 3 p.m. Dec. 2.
Finalists are to be interviewed Jan. 9-10, after which a consultant is to be chosen and contract negotiations begin Jan. 16. The schedule calls for the project to begin Feb. 3 and the completion of the facilities assessment and master plan to occur by Aug. 1, 2014.
According to the portion of the document put together by the purchasing agent, all RFQ documents will be confidential until the selection process is done; then, they become public records. During the process, however, only the names of the those that submit RFQs are public.
The full RFQ is to be available, with possible slight tweaks in the beginning purchasing language, starting Tuesday. For an expanded version of this article, please see Tuesday's print edition or our expanded electronic edition.
