Braves QB upstages Tusculum's Cordell

UNC-Pembroke 60, Tusculum 20

PEMBROKE, N.C.  — Luke Charles passed for 384 yards and four touchdowns as the Braves picked up a 60-20 non-conference victory over the visiting Pioneers.

Charles had a 28-yard scoring strike to B.J. Bunn, a 12-yard TD toss to Michael Isbell, a 15-yard touchdown pass to John Rich and a 50-yard scoring bomb to Te’vell Williams.

Placekicker Connor Haskins, who put the final margin on with a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter,  initiated scoring for UNC-Pembroke (7-1) with a 22-yard field goal early in the first period.

Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell put the Pioneers up 7-3 with his 1-yard scoring sneak with 9:29 on the first quarter clock.

Any elation was short-lived. The Braves exploded for 30 unanswered points en route to intermission, including two defensive points for a team safety.

Cordell passed for 310 yards to lead the Pioneers (3-6), including a 53-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Powell.  The recordholding signal caller was picked off twice, including once by Brandon Fulton for a 91-yard scoring return.
