ROGERSVILLE — Organizers of Rogersville’s annual free Thanksgiving dinner are hoping everyone can attend in person, but a phone number is available for those who want to request a meal be delivered.
Planning and fundraising are continuing for the 10th annual People Loving People (PLP) Thanksgiving dinner, which begins at about 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day in the cafeteria at Joseph Rogers Primary School in Rogersville.
Event chairman Dr. Blaine Jones said he’s hoping people can attend in person and enjoy the various activities and fellowship with the volunteers and other guests.
Transportation to the meal can be arranged by calling (423) 293-3155, but anyone who would like a meal delivered Thanksgiving Day can call that same number and leave a message.
“We do not want anyone to go hungry or be alone on Thanksgiving Day,” Jones said. “We would love for anyone who needs a meal to come join us on Thanksgiving Day at Joseph Rogers Primary School in Rogersville. We would enjoy serving and pampering you for a while.”
Last year more than two tons of food were prepared and served to about 2,500 people on Thanksgiving Day. The meal is prepared and served by an all volunteer staff.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the preparations, serving, delivering or other aspects of the meal is asked to call Cary Lewis Barton at (423) 345-3743.
The next organizational meeting for volunteers will take place Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital cafeteria.
Contributions to help offset the cost of the event can be sent to People Loving People, P.O. Box 35, Rogersville, TN 37857.
