MURFREESBORO — Dobyns-Bennett’s soccer team saw its season come to an end as Franklin bested the Tribe 1-0 in TSSAA Class AAA tournament action at Richard Siegel Park on Wednesday.
The Lady Rebels outshot D-B 19-2 in the match, including a 13-1 differential in the second half.
Franklin’s Meredith Slessman settled it when she slipped by the D-B defense on the end line and sent a pass to Liz Hargin in the 64th minute.
Hargin took the pass on the right side of the goal and sent it past Maggie Elpers on the left side of the net.
Elpers and the Lady Indians defense were spectacular outside of Hargin’s winning shot. The sophomore keeper finished with 14 saves, including dives, leaps to push the ball over the crossbar, and a couple of 2-for-1 stops where she made the initial save and had to be there again to stop the deflection.
D-B put together an offensive spurt in the closing minutes as junior Maggie Burkett had a couple of shots go just right of the post. Becca Feathers’ free kick from 30 yards out at the two-minute mark was nearly perfect as it floated just under the crossbar, but Jessica Harvey was there to keep it out of the net.
