CHURCH HILL — Volunteer finally got that breakthrough win Friday, beating Sullivan Central 33-23 in Big 7 Conference play.
Volunteer’s offense and defense took turns adding to its point total.
Matt Reed contributed from the offensive side by scoring three touchdowns. Reed totaled 178 yards on 22 carries.
Defensively, Dylan Kenkel returned a muffed punt 38 yards for a score and Jovell Tramblay took an interception back for a touchdown.
“It was one we needed. Our guys have played hard all year long,” Falcons coach Scott Ryder said. “They deserve a big win like this.
“Central is a much improved team and Coach (Jeff) Fox is doing a great job, but our boys were not going to be denied tonight.”
Central quarterback Trey Pope rushed for two scores and passed for another.
Volunteer’s victory was the 100th win in the school’s history.Read more of this story in Saturday's print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
