KINGSPORT — A Morristown man will spend the next 11 years in federal prison for sharing child pornography over the Internet.

Troy Dotson, 26, was indicted in U.S. District Court in Greeneville in April on charges of possession, receipt and distribution of child pornography. Dotson pleaded guilty to the distribution charge in June and was sentenced on Oct. 15.

Judge Ronnie Greer sentenced Dotson to 135 months in prison and supervised release for life. Prosecutors had recommended a 138-month sentence while Dotson’s attorney argued for 84 months.

Dotson faced five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to court records, Dotson used a free, peer-to-peer file-sharing program called LimeWire to search for and download child pornography. In July 2012, an undercover detective at the Morristown Police Department received a video file of child pornography from Dotson after searching online using terms consistent with sex with children.
