Suspicious item identified, Kingsport roundabout reopens

Update: 1:25 p.m.

Police have reopened the roundabout, saying the item previously identified as "suspicious" has been removed.

KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton says the item looks to be a vehicle part that may have fallen off a passing truck, but police would rather be safe than sorry.

All roads have been reopened and the flow of traffic should return to normal.

Police blocked access to the Industry Drive roundabout in Kingsport at approximately 12:30 Friday afternoon, attributing the closure to a "suspicious item" found in the area.

Shortly after 1 p.m. KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton said traffic was being diverted from all directions: Center Street, Netherland Inn Road and Industry Drive. Motorists should avoid the area.
