Boone boys, Morristown West girls claim Region 1, Class AAA cross country titles

Boone’s Adam Barnard (16:13.56) finished first individually in the AAA boys race with teammate James Garst second (16:21.17).

GRAY — As expected, the Daniel Boone boys and Morristown West girls claimed their respective  Region 1, Class AAA cross country team titles on Thursday at Daniel Boone.

The real battles took place behind them as teams jockeyed for second and third place finishes in order to qualify for next week’s TSSAA state meet to be held at Percy Warner Steeple Chase Park in Nashville.

Boone, with four runners in the top 10, posted a winning score of 28 points. Science Hill finished second at 73 with Dobyns-Bennett earning a trip to state with a third-place point total of 114.

On the girls side, the Lady Trojans had their first five runners among the top 11 finishers and posted a winning score of 30 points.

Science Hill was second at 58 with Dobyns-Bennett coming in third with 74.

Boone’s Adam Barnard (16:13.56) finished first individually in the AAA boys race with teammate James Garst second (16:21.17).

Makenzie Jones from Morristown took first in the AAA girls with a time of 18:43.05. Tennessee High’s Macy Carrier was second (18:57.36).

In the Class A-AA boys, University School of Johnson City  took first with a 56-69 win over Sullivan East. Greeneville finished third at 82.

The Greeneville girls cruised to a 34-61 victory over Sullivan East in the Class A-AA race with University School third (82).
