GATE CITY — A Scott County man was arrested Monday on multiple felony drug charges after he was pulled over by Gate City police for speeding.
Roger Allen Gillenwater, 43, 467 Turkey Ridge Road, Fort Blackmore, was charged by the Gate City Police Department with possession of over a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of Schedule II narcotics (OxyContin), possession of Schedule II narcotics (amphetamine) and possession of Schedule III narcotics (Lortab).
According to Gate City Police Chief Kim Birchfield, an officer initiated the traffic stop after Gillenwater’s Honda Civic was clocked traveling 43 mph in a 25 mph zone on Jackson Street in downtown Gate City.
While speaking with Gillenwater, Birchfield said officers noticed several pill bottles sitting in the car’s glove compartment.
Gillenwater allegedly told officers that he did not have a prescription for the pills.
While searching Gillenwater’s Civic, officers allegedly found several bags filled with marijuana that were hidden in the front of the vehicle and in its trunk.
An undisclosed amount of pills were also allegedly found in the front of the car and in its trunk during the search.
Birchfield said the pills included 80mg OxyContin tablets, 15 mg amphetamine tablets and 7.5 mg Lortab pills.
Following the traffic stop, Gillenwater was taken into custody before being transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield. He was released on a $5,000 bond.
The Weber City Police Department assisted Gate City officers with Gillenwater’s arrest, Birchfield said.
