KINGSPORT — Lauren Feathers and Erin Burkett scored a goal apiece to lead Dobyns-Bennett to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South-Doyle in the Region 1-AAA girls soccer semifinal at Indian Highland Park on Tuesday.
“We wanted this win so bad,” Burkett said. “Everyone on the team worked hard tonight.
“The goal was to win the game and host the regional final, and we did that.”
The Lady Indians (14-2-3) advanced to host Morristown West (17-1-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the regional final.
Thursday’s victor will host a TSSAA sectional on Saturday while the loser must travel to take on the Region 2 champion the same day.
Feathers took a corner kick from Burkett in the 26th minute and headed it past Lady Cherokees goalkeeper Layla Mosadegh to give D-B the early 1-0 advantage.
Burkett notched her goal six minutes into the second half after receiving a pass from Shannon Stroud.
South-Doyle (13-6-1) narrowed the gap with a goal by Cameron Gale in the 63rd minute, but the Lady Cherokees could get no closer.
