BLOUNTVILLE — An effort to stop the imminent public auction of the former Cedar Grove Elementary School failed by a single vote Monday.
Twelve Sullivan County commissioners voted in favor of postponing action on the issue until January to give a community group a chance to develop a plan to create a community center at the site. But 13 votes were required.
Only 10 commissioners voted against Commissioner Bill Kilgore’s and Commisioner John Crawford’s resolution seeking the delay.
Those who voted against delaying the auction were: Cathy Armstrong, Ty Boomershine, Moe Brotherton, Darlene Calton, O.W. Ferguson, Dwight King, Ed Marsh, Kit McGlothlin, Robert White and Eddie Williams.
King described the discussion and vote as “a waste of our time.”Read more in the Tuesday print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
