CHURCH HILL — Someone broke into McPheeters Bend Elementary School last week and ransacked the main office, reportedly getting away with a small amount of cash, radios and power cords.
The burglary was discovered this past Thursday morning, although it likely took place Wednesday around 10:30 p.m.
That’s when custodian Lisa Barnett, who is the school’s contact for the security company, was notified that the power was out at the school.
When Barnett arrived at the school around 7 a.m. on Thursday, she discovered a broken window in the school’s main office.
According to reports, the office had been ransacked, and the main circuit breaker had been shut off.
Among the items stolen were four “Icom” handheld radios with unknown value; three power cords valued at $60; $20 to $30 in cash; and a small amount of medication including 1.5 Clonidine pills, one Adderall pill and one Risperidone.
The case was forwarded to Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Marc Bass and Ken Sturgill.
In an apparently unrelated case the HCSO is investigating a burglary that was discovered Saturday morning at the McDonald Hills Golf Course, 352 Guntown Road, just south of Rogersville.
According to reports that burglary took place sometime between Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 7 a.m.
Pry marks were reportedly found on the door, and about $200 in cash was taken.
