Bluff City man arrested for allegedly choking girlfriend after being hit with screen door

A Bluff City man was arrested after choking his girlfriend when she hit him in the shoulder with a porch door, according to a police report.

Jeffrey E. Scott, 47, 780 Pleasant Grove Road, was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault.

The incident began when Scott arrived at the victim’s house early Friday morning. Scott reportedly asked the victim if she needed anything before he went hunting with his friends, according to the police report.

When the victim told him she needed $20 for some food, it reportedly made Scott upset and he slammed a bedroom door.

When the victim opened the door to the screened in porch to ask Scott what time he would be home, the door hit him in the shoulder, the report stated.

Scott then turned around and reportedly told the victim, “That is the last time you will do that.”

He then grabbed the victim by the neck with both hands and began pushing her backwards. Scott was squeezing and shaking the victim as he pushed her back causing her to hit her arm on the counter, the victim told police.

Scott then turned and walked away. Three children were present as the assault took place.

Scott then left and went hunting with his friends. The victim called Scott and told him she would be calling the police. Scott then came back to the house and told the victim to leave.

Once he had left the house again, she packed up her and her children’s stuff and left the house. She went to SCSO to file a report and showed the officer pictures from the incident on her cell phone. Marks on her neck and a bruise on her left arm were visible, the report stated.

She gave a statement to police and was escorted to a safe house.

Scott was located at his residence trying to leave by other officers. He was placed under arrest and transported to Sullivan County Jail without incident.
