TALLADEGA, Ala. — Qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway was rained out Saturday.

The 43-car field was set based on speeds from the first practice session on the 2.66-mile trioval, meaning Aric Almirola will start Sunday's race from the pole. Jeff Burton claimed the outside spot on the front row and Almirola's teammate, Marcus Ambrose, got the third spot.

Chase for the championship points leader Matt Kenseth will start from the 12th spot while his closest challenger, Jimmie Johnson, will go off 11th.

Officials attempted to dry the track Saturday, but the rain continued through midday. With a truck race scheduled for the afternoon and no lights at Talladega, NASCAR ran out of time to get in the qualifying session.
