NORTON — Nate Mullins scored three touchdowns in the second half to propel Clintwood toward a 34-13 Cumberland District win at J.I. Burton on Friday night.
The Greenwave (5-2, 4-0) clung to a 14-7 early in the third period when quarterback Dalton Dahley hit Mullins with a 20-yard scoring strike in the corner of the end zone for the two-touchdown cushion.
Mullins added another score with 18.7 seconds remaining in the period when he recovered Kelly Thompson’s muffed punt reception in the end zone.
Dahley’s 27-yard scoring strike to Mullins with 10:42 in the third quarter put the Greenwave ahead 34-7.
Dahley passed for 126 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown toss to Austin Turner in the second quarter. Dakota Dahley led Clintwood rushers with 147 yards, including a 15-yard scoring run that initiated scoring in the second period.
The Raiders (4-4, 3-1) trailed 14-0 at the half, but exploited a disastrous long snap over Dalton Dahley’s head that set up Tra Adams’ 1-yard scoring sneak.
Adams scored again on a 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Burton netted only 47 rushing yards on the game, 46 of which was churned out by Thompson. The Raiders’ other starting slotback, Tyler Justiniano, came out with a knee injury after the first play of the second half.
