GATE CITY — Gate City scored 18 straight points to open the game and never looked back in a 40-20 Mountain District romp over visiting Lee High on Friday at Legion Field.
“It really was an awesome start for us,” said Gate City coach Bill Houseright.
Blue Devils quarterback Hunter Collier ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. He scored on runs of 4 and 11 yards and connected with older brother Michael on a 6-yard TD pass.
Caleb Herron rushed 12 times for 94 yards and Evan Baker added 64 yards on 15 carries. Baker also scored on an 8-yard run for Gate City (4-4, 1-1), which got a big helping hand from its special teams play in notching the win.
Ray Avery led the Generals (3-4, 0-2) with 105 yards on 15 carries. He scored on runs of 47 and 3 yards.
Generals quarterback Houston Sage completed 7 of 17 passes for 151 yards and one interception. He also had an 11-yard TD run.
