BLOUNTVILLE — Dobyns-Bennett made another step toward the Big 7 Conference football championship with a 49-13 win over Sullivan Central on Friday night.
The Indians built a 28-0 first-quarter lead and began substituting in mass against the Cougars (3-5, 0-5).
Elijah Dunn scored four plays into the game, on a 9-yard run, and followed just minutes later with a 3-yard dive that staked the Tribe to a 14-0 lead.
Quarterback Skylar East, the second of five D-B quarterbacks, hit D.J. Jones for a 46-yard score, and Alex Keeler rounded out the first-quarter scoring with his 2-yard run to paydirt.
“It was a good night for young running backs. They are the future,” said Indians coach Graham Clark. “You have got to get them the reps.
“Our guys did what they had to do to win and get ourselves in position for a conference championship.”
The Indians (6-3, 5-0) have a bye next week before facing rival Science Hill (6-2, 4-0) to decide the Big 7 champion.
