WISE — The Health Wagon will distribute 150 free mattresses Saturday, Oct. 19, and the area health care group has announced it will receive funding for a fitness program.
Health Wagon Director of Operations Assistant Andrew S. Bledsoe on Tuesday said the mattress giveaway will be from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. Saturday at the former Buster Brown facility on Industrial Park Road near the Esserville section of Norton, or in the valley behind the Kmart complex off U.S. Route 23.
All recipients have already been determined by a prior call in public service announcement, Bledsoe said.
“We actually filled up that list about a week ago,” he said.
The Health Wagon will distribute 140 twin-size and 10 full-size mattresses, Bledsoe said. The mattresses were donated by Tempur-Pedic to the United Breast Cancer Foundation which forwarded them to The Health Wagon, he said.
Members of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise women’s softball team, and possibly the girls’ basketball team from Central High School in Wise, will volunteer to help distribute the mattresses, Bledsoe said.
