KINGSPORT — Sullivan South made reservations for the TSSAA state volleyball tournament in Murfreesboro with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 win over Knox Catholic Thursday evening.

State tournament action begins next Wednesday with Class AA play at Middle Tennessee State and Blackman High School.

The Lady Rebels have become accustomed to three game sweeps, but the Fighting Irish didn’t go down easy. Catholic led 15-14 in Game 1 before South pulled away for the win.

Game 3 saw the Lady Rebels trail 16-15 before going on a 9-2 run that all but sealed the match.

“I think you come in nervous and then when you get that first game you can take a sigh of relief,” said South coach Wendi Ratliff. “Not that we have it in the bag but you can take a breath.”

Rylee Milhorn led South with 14 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Johnson added 22 assists.
