Scrapbook Flashback: Readers invited to share old Halloween pictures

Halloween is just a few weeks away. To celebrate, Sunday Stories is accepting photos for another Scrapbook Flashback.

We're asking readers to dig out their photo albums and share old photos (20 years old or older) from Halloweens past! What we're looking for, specifically, are photos of your favorite Halloween costumes from days gone by. Maybe it was the outfit your mom made you in first grade, or your very first superhero suit.

We'll be featuring snapshots from 20 or more years ago in the October Scrapbook Flashback.

It can be a snapshot of an individual or group of kids, decorations or from events related to Halloween. Old photos from fall festivals, Halloween parties, neighborhood events and other activities are welcome. But, keep in mind, we do prefer snapshots so no professional portraits will be accepted.

Be sure to provide us with a brief description of the photo, including who's in the picture, as well as when and where it was taken.

The deadline for this month's Scrapbook Flashback is noon, Monday, Oct. 21.

Keep in mind that Scrapbook Flashback is always a themed section - in this case, Halloween - and the pictures have to be at least 20 years old.

Readers can share current photos and stories at Halloween and throughout the year in Sunday Scrapbook by emailing them to You can also share photos online at

Are you ready to get started? Well, then grab your camera - or even your iPhone - and take some photos.  Then, simply email, mail or deliver them to us and we'll take care of the rest.

The photos should be sent in jpg format, and should be approximately 5 x 7 in size, resolution 200 dots per inch, or a total file size not less than 1 megabyte. Be sure to send the photos as attachments to an email, and not as a link to any outside site. If you are unable to send digital images, we strongly recommend that you have copies of your photo made to submit. If you choose to send the original and want the photo returned after it has published, please be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can also pick them up at the Times-News any (non-holiday) week day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Make sure to include your name (as the person submitting it) and identify the folks in the picture, so that all your friends and family members will recognize them in the scrapbook. It's also helpful if you can let us know where and when the photo was taken.

Email your contributions (along with your name and address) to: Or mail them to: Sunday Scrapbook, Attn: Carmen Musick, Kingsport Times-News, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

Selected photos are published, as space permits, in the Sunday Scrapbook inside the print edition of Sunday Stories. They may also appear in the Scrapbook Gallery, which can be accessed online under the Sunday Stories category at
