KINGSPORT — After dropping down a classification this year, the season has been filled with firsts for Sullivan South’s volleyball program.
The Lady Rebels won their first Three Rivers Conference regular-season title as well as their first District 1-AA tournament crown.
On Monday evening, the squad continued marking off items on its to-do list by claiming the Region 1-AA championship with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-20 win over Sullivan East.
The victory gives South a home sectional match against the Region 2 runner-up on Thursday. East must travel to face the Region 2 champion.
Monday's championship game fell short of anything epic. South built early leads in the first two games and coasted in to the wins.
The Lady Patriots put up a tougher fight in Game 3, pulling to within 23-20 before ultimately falling in the game and the match.
Tournament MVP Rylee Milhorn was steady as ever with 16 kills to go with seven digs. Teammate Haley Price had 12 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Rebels.
Haley Roe led the Lady Patriots with 19 assists and 10 digs. Teammate Hannah Price had nine kills and seven digs.
Earlier Monday, the Lady Rebels advanced with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 semifinal win over Greeneville. The Lady Patriots beat Grainger 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 to reach the title match.
