GATE CITY — An Ohio man will serve three years in state prison after being sentenced this week for robbing a Gate City gas station with a pellet gun as he was passing through the region earlier this year on his way to Florida.
Domonique Parnell, 19 — whose last known residence was in Columbus, Ohio — was sentenced after pleading guilty in July to charges of robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and assault and battery for his role in the April robbery.
Parnell was ordered to serve a 10-year sentence with seven years suspended and submit to 10 years of unsupervised probation.
Parnell, who had no criminal history prior to this conviction, faced a maximum sentence of life in prison due to the armed robbery charge. One of the store clerks present during the robbery testified during Parnell’s sentencing hearing Monday, asking the presiding judge to grant him leniency due to several factors, including the fact he had been honorably discharged from the military.Read more in the Monday print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
