KINGSPORT — A Kingsport woman was seriously injured early Saturday evening in a two-vehicle collision on West Stone Drive.
Betty Stout, 48, of Kingsport — the driver of a 2004 Saturn Ion involved the crash — was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center with serious injuries, authorities said.
According to the Kingsport Police Department Traffic Unit, the incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. on West Stone Drive near C.E. Brooks Way.
Authorities said Stout was in the eastbound center turn lane of West Stone when she attempted to turn across westbound traffic onto northbound C.E. Brooks Drive.
Stout reportedly failed to yield the right of way and drove into the path of a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by James A. Lucas, 19, of Knoxville, that was traveling westbound.
As a result of the failure to yield, authorities said the Nissan struck Stout’s vehicle in the front passenger-side door.
Two juvenile passengers in Lucas’ car were also hurt in the accident. Authorities said their injuries are considered non-life threatening. Their identities were not released.
Authorities said an investigation of the crash is still ongoing.
