GRAY — Led by Adam Barnard’s historic performance, the Daniel Boone boys captured the team title in the 41st Trailblazer Invitational cross country meet at Boone on Saturday.
The Trailblazers posted a winning score of 49 points. Dobyns-Bennett was second, edging Science Hill 123-124.
It was the Trailblazers’ third win in a row in the event.
Barnard, a junior, became the first Daniel Boone runner to win the race. His time over the demanding course was 15:40.0
Wesley Pectol of Greeneville finished second at 15:52.0 with John Battle’s Brad Swiney third (16:05.0).
Morristown West took the girls team title with a winning point total of 40. Dobyns-Bennett finished second with 56 while Science Hill was third at 73.
West’s Makenzie Jones cruised to the individual girls title with a winning time of 18:52.0.
Science Hill’s Halle Hausman was second at 19:27.8 with D-B’s Sophia Neglia third (19:29.3).
