ERWIN — Sullivan South won the District 1-AA volleyball tournament at Unicoi County on Thursday.
But it was far from a cake walk.
The Lady Rebels upended determined Sullivan East 25-17, 25-15, 17-25, 25-21.
South (40-8) had gone undefeated in the Three Rivers Conference and had not lost a game to a conference foe all season. The Lady Patriots (24-20) got some satisfaction from taking a game from the Lady Rebs.
The Lady Rebels’ Rylee Milhorn, who was named the tournament MVP, had 22 kills and 10 digs. Haley Price added 17 kills and 18 digs for South with Hannah Johnson and Carrie Hall dishing out 24 and 19 assists, respectively.
Kendall Ivester had 28 digs for Sullivan East while Hannah Price added 14 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Haley Roe dished out 45 assists for the Lady Patriots with Micaela Chaffin downing nine kills.
South will host the Region 1-AA tournament on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
