A rollover crash on Lebanon Road on Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Sullivan South student, Sullivan County authorities said.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart said Blake Young, 16, was driving north on Lebanon Road shortly before 7 a.m. In the 1000 block his pickup exited the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned.
The wreck ejected Young from the cab of his vehicle. The SCSO said an investigation is continuing.
Sullivan South Principal Greg Harvey said counselors from the school system’s crisis team responded to the school Thursday morning, offering assistance to grieving students. The team will return today.
This is homecoming week at Sullivan South. With the news of the wreck involving Young, a soccer player, Thursday and today’s in-school activities to commemorate the celebration have been postponed.
“The whole student body is very subdued,” Harvey said. “It’s our homecoming week, so we switched gears and are now in a state of mourning.”
A vehicle overturned Thursday morning in Kingsport, ejecting the driver and inflicting critical injuries.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. in the 1000 block of Lebanon Road. As of 9 a.m. Sullivan County Sheriff's Office personnel were still working the scene, with additional details expected to be released later in the day.
A Ford pickup was northbound when it left the right side of the road and overturned, ejecting the driver. The vehicle came to rest on its top in a ditch.
