KINGSPORT — A new 21st century Wendy’s has opened at 410 W. Stone Drive near the Lynn Garden Drive intersection.

The location run by Tri-Cities Restaurant Group is a complete overhaul of the old restaurant design.

The exterior features a contemporary design with large windows and natural materials. The interior showcases open, bright dining areas, with multiple seating options. The restaurant has a new customer ordering process, digital menu boards and a high-definition television.

Wendy’s officials say the design is part of a multi-year strategy to reinvigorate their brand and the way customers interact with the restaurants.

“This restaurant has bold curb appeal and features a compelling, innovative interior and exterior design,” said franchisee Joe Drury with Tri-Cities Restaurant Group. “It’s very different from what our customers in Kingsport are used to, but we think they’ll really like the fresh look and feel of the new Wendy’s.”

The pick-up window has an awning at the ordering speaker. The menu boards feature enticing product photography, video and graphics that make ordering simple.

By the end of the year, Wendy’s intends to re-image at least 100 company and 100 franchise restaurants in North America. Wendy’s is offering $10 million in cash incentives for franchisees to remodel existing Wendy’s restaurants, according to a release.

Wendy’s is the third-largest quick-service hamburger company, with more than 6,500 franchise and company restaurants in the U.S. and 27 other countries.

Three years ago, Wendy’s introduced a new premium burger called Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy Cheeseburger, named after founder Dave Thomas, and switched its fries to natural-cut skin-on fries made with russet potatoes and sprinkled with sea salt.

More recently, the brand strategy included launches of several new items, such as berry almond chicken salad, and limited-time items like the flatbread grilled chicken sandwich and pretzel bacon cheeseburger.
