CHURCH HILL — Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett went the distance on Wednesday at the District 1-AAA volleyball tournament.
But if the Lady Hilltoppers have anything to say about it, Wednesday’s instant classic might just be the beginning.
D-B fell behind 2-1 before storming back for a 25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-12 victory over Science Hill in the winners’ bracket final. The win assured the Tribe of a spot in Thursday’s district title game and a berth in the Region 1-AAA tournament.
The Lady Hilltoppers still have a shot at the district championship, a trip to the regionals and revenge against the Lady Indians, but in order to get their, they’ll have to beat Sullivan Central in an elimination game Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Lady Cougars kept their season alive on Wednesday by beating Tennessee High 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-23. The winner of the game between Central and Science Hill will face D-B at 6:30 p.m.
Taylor Henry paced the Tribe with 23 kills while Sasha Morrisette came through with 26 digs and 10 kills against Science Hill. Ashley Reynolds tallied 15 kills and 14 digs for Central while Katlyn Buckland had 15 digs and 37 assists.
Lakeisha Gregory had 14 kills and 18 digs for the Lady Hilltoppers and Molly Shaw led Tennessee High with 16 kills and 16 digs.
