MANCHESTER, Tenn. — Northeast Tennessee earned another feather in its golf hat Wednesday when the Science Hill girls captured the TSSAA Class AAA state golf crown at WillowBrook Golf Club.
Last week, the Sullivan South girls had won the Class A-AA title.
The Lady Hilltoppers, led by freshman Addison Baggarly’s 1-under-par 71, shot a second round 147 to break a three-way tie for first and win the title by seven shots.
Science Hill senior Allison Woodward shot a second round 76 to add to Baggarly’s low round of the day.
The Lady Hilltoppers were tied at 162 with Rossview and Warren County after Tuesday’s opening round.
Science Hill finished with a two-day total of 309 with Rossview second at 316. Farragut was third with a 328 while Warren County came in fourth at 329.
Individually, Aubree Jones from Brighton finished first with a 148 (72-76).
Baggarly was third overall at 152 (81-71) with Daniel Boone’s Haley Wagner fourth at 153 (80-73).
Woodward finished tied for fifth (81-76—157) while Dobyns-Bennett’s Haverly Harrold tied for eighth (81-78—159).
Hendersonville won the boys title with a score of 594. Farragut finished second at 598 with Houston third (605) and Dobyns-Bennett fourth (618).
Noah Trenkler from Hendersonville defeated Zach Haynes of Smyrna in a playoff for the top spot individually. The pair had finished regulation play tied at 2-under-par 142.
Ben Huskey from Sevier County finished third at 144 (73-71).
Dobyns-Bennett was led by Drew Doran at 150 (79-71). William Nottingham shot 151 (80-71) while James Beckner was at 156 (80-76). The Indians’ Eddie Karst (82-79) and Andrew Nottingham (82-79) finished at 162.
Tennessee High’s Chad Couch shot 165 (87-78) with Region 1 champion Kodey Popplewell from Cherokee finishing at 173 (92-81).
