KINGSPORT — Seniors Katie Bryant and Lauren Feathers took charge Tuesday evening and led Dobyns-Bennett to a 6-0 win over David Crockett in a District 1-AAA girls soccer matchup.
The victory on Senior Night sealed the district championship for the Lady Indians, their first in four years, as well as a bye in the first round of the upcoming league tournament.
D-B sprinted to a 5-0 halftime lead and Tribe coach Blake Rutherford substituted freely early in the match.
“We accomplished two goals tonight, one of those being undefeated in the regular season at home,” Rutherford said. “Protect this house that we’ve tried so hard to build and, of course, winning the conference championship.”
Bryant opened the scoring in the third minute on an assist from Shannon Stroud. Feathers, with her team up 2-0, pushed through goals in the 25th and 29th minute. The second goal came on Stroud’s second assist of the night.Read more in the Wednesday print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
